The University of Applied Sciences in Eberswalde and the Family

Family-friendly UniversityThe University of Applied Sciences in Eberswalde would like to establish itself as a family-friendly university. And it is doing so successfully, as you can tell by the children of the students and staff on the campus, for example, in the play-corner in the university cafeteria.

Mothers and fathers with children or infants can make use of the parent-children rooms; there is one located at the Forest Campus, and another at the City Campus. These rooms are equipped with day beds, cribs, changing tables and play facilities, kettles, bottle-warmers, and a desk. The rooms are on the ground floor of House 12 at the Forest Campus and on the ground floor of House 1 at the City Campus.

Flexible working hours for staff and a friendly and open atmosphere between staff, students and teachers result in a climate where the unavoidable problems that can occur among working or studying parents can usually be dealt with swiftly.

Childcare facilities for children from 0 to six years of age are available in sufficient quantity in Eberswalde. In addition to the many independent day care centres (Kita), the municipal Kita with their various special services, and the excellent childminders, the specific day care package for university parents in Eberswalde at the city Kita Sputnik offers an integrated hiking group for children in the ages of three to six.

The Student Office in Frankfurt/Oder can, upon request, equip rooms or apartments in the student dormitories with cribs and changing tables; it is also open to questions regarding how to finance one’s studies as a parent.

Much is still in construction, and the university encourages parents — but also others interested — to add their constructive suggestions and to get involved in the development of its special programmes by offering feedback.
