Worldwide, tourism has become one of the most significant economic sectors - entailing many opportunities and risks that come along with dynamic growth. Sustainable development is the way to go on a planet with limited resources. This is particularly true for tourism, an industry which is dependent like few others on an intact environment and vibrant cultures.

As a response to these challenges the University of Eberswalde has created the Sustainable Tourism Management course which was officially accredited in 2004. Graduates are awarded the internationally recognised Master of Arts (M.A.) degree.
