Anti-Discrimination Office

Equality Officer & coordination of anti-discrimination and anti-racism activities

Anti-discrimination = protection against disadvantages and unfavourable treatment because of gender, origin, religion, age, sexual orientation, personal status, appearance etc.

Discrimination at universities may arise in various domains:

for students: during admission procedure, student financing, study progress, for instance in examinations, or while entering the professional world

for employees: during advertising and recruitment, regarding payment, access to qualification and carreer opportunities, in the personnel management or the organisation of work

The The General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) requires any employer to take adequate measures to avoid disadvantages. The Anti-Discrimination Office informs members, students and employees of the university and receives suggestions and complaints. It works with the parties concerned to find consensual solutions. Contact us at anti-discrimination@hnee.de or visit our office at the city campus, house 6, room 06.306!

⇒ Would you like to inform us about a discriminating experience but would prefer to do this anonymously? Please use our discimination announcement online-form!

The Equality Officer advises and supports the President and the other bodies and institutions of the University in all matters concerning the equality of men and women, especially with regard to targets, structure and personnel decisions and producing and implementing the equality concept and the equality plans. The equality officer is a member of the State Conference of Equality Officers (LaKoG).

⇒ Information regarding diversity and equality projects can be found here! The gender equality concept defines measures to promote gender equality.

Gender-appropriate language is frequently a reason for uncertainty. See Leaflet M 19 "Sprachliche Gleichbehandlung von Frauen und Männern" (Equal Linguistic Treatment of Women and Men) of the Federal Agency for Office Organisation and Office Technology (BBB) or try the ingenious gender dictionary.

Did you suffer or witness racist experiences at university? Please contact our anti-racism helpdesk or visit our office directly on Tuesdays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

What to do after a racist attack?
Find information in various languages here, get in touch or connect to Opferperspektive e.V. - which offers advise and support in cases of politically motivated violence.
